We know that seeing your child smile is the greatest gift you can receive. Athens family dentist Dr. Lane Barker has over two decades of experience in providing preventive dental care for children and teens, as well as a comprehensive range of treatments for adult dental needs, such as Cerec® one-visit dental crowns, periodontal (gum) therapy and Invisalign® clear orthodontics.
We generally see children in our dental office when they are old enough to stay seated in the dental chair, typically around 2-3 years of age. We begin by taking your child on a fun tour, starting with a ride in the dental chair and continuing at their pace as we play with the ‘straw’ and water spray together. Dr. Barker will ‘count’ your child's teeth during his exam and our dental hygienist will polish them to get them shiny clean. We know that if we can entertain your child during their visit, they will look forward to coming back to see us again!
To prepare your child for their first visit to the dentist, we suggest reading a children's book about visiting the dentist and counting their teeth as you help them brush at home.

Your child's dental health is our top priority. If your child has extensive dental needs or is very fearful, we may recommend that they see a pediatric children's dentist for specialist care.
Our dental care needs change as we mature. The American Dental Association® recommends that patients be seen for complete examination and hygiene care 2-4 times per year to help prevent tooth decay and gum (periodontal) disease. During these visits, Dr. Barker will review any necessary digital dental x-rays to monitor for changes, such as early signs of tooth cavities, eruption of permanent teeth or changes in jawbone levels.
We want you to enjoy a healthy, pain-free smile for a lifetime! Our goal is to detect problems as early as possible to prevent tooth loss or infection. If procedures are recommended, we will review your treatment options with you and assist you with planning your care.
Dr. Barker and Team provide restorative treatments to rebuild teeth that have been damaged by tooth decay or trauma, such as dental fillings, as well as tooth replacement procedures including dental implants, bridges and dentures.
We know that fitting dental health into your budget requires planning. We will review our financial options along with any treatment that we recommend and are always happy to answer any questions you may have. We accept CareCredit® dental financing and file most major dental insurance plans.
