Our Story

Have you ever wondered where we got the inspiration for our name?

Dr. Barker and his wife Christie wanted it to represent something close to their heart. One of the first things that came to her mind was her great grandmother's treasured magnolia plates.

Christie's great grandmother, who they affectionately called “Sweet Thang”, was born in 1904.

She survived the Great Depression, helping raise her siblings in an orphanage, and the early death of her husband. She raised Christie's grandfather, not remarrying until much later in life. Sweet Thang always had an amazing outlook on life and loved to the fullest.

While Christie was growing up, she and her mom would frequent estate sales and thrift stores, purchasing those magnolia dishes to add to Sweet Thang's collection. Before passing at the age of 98, Sweet Thang had a complete set.

For Dr. Barker and Christie the plates are several reminders; humble beginnings, love others with all your heart, hard work and a great attitude will help you achieve your goals, and of course the importance of southern hospitality. You can see some of the plates displayed in the office.
